Bush’s Latest Dysfunction…
Ok – George W. Bush is a complete and utter idiot. In response to the rising gas prices, he said something (quoted on WTOP News (www.wtopnews.com)) that actually had me barking….
He said “We need to open up new oil exploration in the US, we need to open up ANWR (The Alaska National Wildlife Refuge) to drilling”
Let me explain something for the permanently daft. It’s not an Oil supply problem, it’s a refining capacity problem. We are paying through the nose for gas because the oil companies refuse to build enough refining capacity to handle the current load. This allows them to artificially inflate the prices under the guises of “Supply and Demand” and make tens of billions of dollars per quarter in blood-revenue. Why should they build more refining capacity when all it will do is cut into their profits?
Again – they are making their money on your backs. The only thing opening up ANWR and the coastal regions to exploration will do will be to give them a cheaper source of oil. It doesn’t do anything for the problem at hand, which is that no matter how much oil we have, we can’t turn it into gas fast enough.
